I absolutely love St. Patrick's Day, not necessarily for the luckiness or leprechauns, or even the history. Don't mean to offend anyone because I have Irish blood too. I love it because I love everything RAINBOW AND UNICORNS. Yes, I love rainbows and unicorns. In my teenage years, my bedroom was all decorated in unicorns. For some reason, this has passed down to our granddaughters. Who knew!
During the week of St. Patrick's Day, we will get in the kitchen and make a lot of things concerning rainbows. We will make signs of big rainbows and hang them in the entry way the first day. We dress in rainbow things all week long too.
These are pictures of two different years that we have loved rainbow grill cheese: Look at those colors
I would say, we got the hang of it.
Next, we tackle homemade rainbow bread so we can use it all week. We make sandwiches, toast, etc., with it. One year, I had 7 people in my kitchen making this bread. We had a homeschool day thanks to the pandemic of 2020. We had so much fun. No way was I going to tell them we could have mixed the food coloring into the dough with the stand mixer. I wanted them to have a fun experience. Just look at those faces. They worked their muscles too. Fun was had by all trust me. We laughed and talked the whole way through.
We make rainbow pancakes quite frequently all year long. We can choose a color and have different thems for the year. Blue is of course, Frozen with Elsa and Anna, Green is around Christmas for the Grinch or St. Patrick's Day, Yellow is sunshine days, Orange is Moana, and so forth and so on.
While we do this, we double or triple the recipe so we can have freezer breakfasts on hand all the time. Makes busy school mornings go by a little easier. Why not?
After we have eat breakfast, I will take the rest and put them into Ziploc bags and place them into the freezer. When it is time to eat, I take what we want out, put on a plate, put a damp paper towel on top and heat up. The damp paper towel creates steam to help them not become hard as a rock when reheated.
I make sure to keep whipped cream and sprinkles on hand at all times too. Hey, it's all about balance. lol.
We found a way to make waffles too. Yay!!!!
One year this was an extremely fun treat:
Rainbow cupcakes
Oh that was so much fun, we just may have to do it again. They have gotten older and know how to use my piping kits now. The Twizzler rainbow gummy candy, was the icing on the cake. No pun intended.
We watch all kinds of unicorn animated shows on tv this week too.
These are som fun ideas that we like to do for this whole week. What are some of yours?
